What has the World Done to Us? And, Why Am I Crying About It!

There’s a saying that says, “One Bad Apple, spoils it for the Rest” and the older I’m getting, I’m finding that statement to be even the more sadder by the minute, hour and day.

The World is a Cruel place.

Now I know what you may be thinking, “Okay, whose peed in my cheerios” Well, it’s not about “Who” but “What” – While the world is cruel and evil and sometimes (okay most times) unforgiving. There are still quite a few people in it, that are cool, personable and have a way of turning any blue day into a shiny one, just by their personality alone. I happen to be one of those people…

Recently, I put a couple of things online to sell. I posted these items across the yard sale boards and I tell you, I have never, ever in my life received so many responses. I mean, I couldn’t finish answering one question before I could answer another one. It became SOOO overwhelming, I began telling people that certain items had sold – just to calm down my inbox. It was then that I understood why celebrities have designated people either checking their emails or handling their social media handles. I guess you can say that experience was my 15 min of fame as I surely thought I had become one, OVERNIGHT!!

I was successful in getting certain things sold but after a couple of failed promised deals gone bad – I decided to go down the list to other people interested. What I noticed is that although I had stated in my post that there would be “NO DELIVERIES” I had quite a few people whom opted that I meet them in a public place, a common area where a lot of people are. I did this for one person but when it came to the other person wanting me to do the same thing, I felt a little disheartened.

In Honor of Black History Month >> Check This Out >> Which Black History Hero Do You Identify With (Quiz)

They were interested in an item I had but clearly stated that their circumstances would keep them from meeting me as they don’t do anything or go anywhere, especially to someone’s house without their spouse tagging along. They went on to mention that if they did meet me without their better half, it would have to be at a police station and because their spouse would be unavailable. They asked to be passed over for the items and that I move on to the next person.

In that moment, I felt some type of way, I felt dehumanized – if that makes sense. I suddenly thought – the world is a cruel place indeed; it’s been crippled by so much FEAR.

Thinking about the response from that individual suddenly made me cry. I admit, sometimes I can be a very emotional person, depending on the situation and especially during a good chick flick; pass the tissues because this girl will be crying. I mean, that’s just me.

Now, I know my actions to that situation doesn’t make a lick of sense to you and if I can be honest, it really didn’t to me either, like “Why was I crying??” I felt sad because of ALL the negativity, scams, killings and so forth in the world, nobody can be trusted!! The first thing I thought was, “I wouldn’t hurt anyone” I remember crying one day because I’d accidently run over a dog, who came bustling out in the road from nowhere it seems.

I believe I cried too because I KNOW what type of person I am, but just because I KNOW, doesn’t mean that someone else does and you can’t be too careful these days, not even a little bit. People that speak nicely on the phone or appear nice, can easily turn out to be a terror in disguise, the only thing they need or seem to look for is an open heart to let them in and the next thing you know, your world, is turned upside-down. “Can’t people just be Good??, I mean, can we just have Good people, who want to do GOOD things and NOT bring hurt or harm to anyone? Can’t we just have GOOD PEOPLE? Are there NOT enough good people in the world??

While I was having an emotional moment of silence to myself. There was a little voice on the inside of me that said, “You Keep Being Good, no matter what, just keep being YOU!” It’s amazing how something so small can change our mindset about life and question who we really are.

I said all of that to say, Yes, while the world seems to be going to HELL in a hand-basket. There’s still some good and good people left in it. There are still organizations, companies and non-profits whom are changing the world – even if just for one person.

You can’t make people see the good in you, especially over the phone or thru a message board…lol, and please don’t try to make them. All you can do is just BE YOU. If you’re good, continue being good and don’t let anyone dull your shine, no matter how NEGATIVE the world may continue to get.

Do not be overcome by evil but overcome evil with good. Romans 12:21 (NIV)

Thoughts: Is Halloween Reallyyyyyy, The Devil’s Birthday?

I recently glanced over a post (linked below) that asked a similar question, it got me to thinking – so I decided to write my thoughts about it…

So, I just have to say before I start this post that if you have a different opinion, while it’s appreciated because we all have one, right? But if yours is STRONGLY opinionated to the point of arguing (because I’m a lover, not a fighter = ) then please – STOP HERE and don’t go any further…

But, for everyone else who just want to read something today – let’s forge ahead….shall we? Okay, so I’m just going to put it out there – I’ve been told ALLLLLLLLL my little life that Halloween was the devils night and we should all stay in the house on that day. I was told that the devil uses that day to disguise himself as well as his counterparts because everyone’s in costumes so you’ll never know if it’s really a child or something else lurking behind it.

This made me scared and if I can be honest, put a bad complex over me and the holiday altogether. Does the devil really have a birthday??? Like Jesus does??? I guess because Halloween has been linked to everything “evil” that was the most common day that seemed like it would be well-fitting for such an evil person.

Related Post: 3 Reasons Why Halloween Is Not Satan’s Birthday and Never Will Be

However; I don’t think that Halloween is the devil’s birthday – just as I don’t think Christmas is Jesus’ birthday (I know I just got nailed to every cross imaginable, for that statement) but I don’t. I know the bible makes references to the night he was born and the many things that happened but there’s no real (or at least I haven’t seen it) conclusion as to when Jesus was born and if I can be honest, I really don’t care to know – the only thing I know is that I LOVE HIM and appreciate him. We honor him every day when we give thanks for the things he has done, the things he has brought us thru and the things that we know, that we know, that we know should have happened to us but by his mercy and grace – we’re still here (can I get an amen for that?!)

If Halloween was really the devil’s birthday, then why do Christians still celebrate the day by doing trunk or treat or little parties and etc. I mean, that’s still a celebration for the day, right? I say, people believe what they want to believe and if you have kids then let them enjoy the day, trust me as they get older – they’ll form their own opinion about what they really think and not because of something, someone forced them to believe.

As a Christian, I’m not much into any holidays really – especially my birthday but that’s another post discussion. But I do have kids and they desire to hang with friends and do fun things on that night just as anyone else and I let them. In the past, we’ve watched scary movies, ate cupcakes and had pizza on that night.

Do I believe spirits are real? yes, I do…

Do I believe they only come out on Halloween? No, I don’t…

We live in a world full of spirits – Good as well as Bad ones

The question we should ask ourselves is “WHICH ones we’re entertaining the most”

So, this was just my two cents – which probably doesn’t matter much but anywho, I hope you have a GREAT Halloween, whether you believe in it or not. Whatever you decide to do on this day, just make it fun and not “intentionally” scary or bad on purpose. Holidays are what you make them out to be….whether you’re a Christian or not.

Sunday’s Thought: When You Give More, Receive Less & Pout About It!

The pictures above and below courtesy of pexels and bing

Did I tell you that last week I woke up in the middle of the night, crying my eyeballs out! I was so emotional and for some reason or another, that week just seemed to be a rollercoaster ride of them all because I was feeling some type a way about something that I honestly couldn’t control – ever been there??

Going to work the following day, no one would’ve even guessed or imagined that I had that bout of sadness, I guess it’s because I’m so used to trying to be the smile or the light for others to see – but what happens when I need a smile or a light and no one’s there to give it back to me – What happens when I, HOLD UP – let me capitalize it “EXPECT” people to do things for me because I loyal in doing something for them; is it wrong for me to expect that same loyalty back in return? What happens when I don’t get it?

Have u ever went above and beyond to do good for someone, but found yourself not getting that same dedication back in return?

Let me just say, I’ve been there more times than I’d like to admit and I found myself literally having a pity party over it – I wanted people to put the same heart, time and effort into doing for me, as I did for them. However; my hopes, dreams, and fantasies of wanting this to be so, was NOT so!

alone-basket-blur-208087

There’s a scripture in the bible that says “”Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you.”  Matthew 7:12 (NLT). I can’t tell you how long I’ve misunderstood this verse, because in my mind – I was doing for others with the anticipation that they would and should ((let me be transparent and honest here)) do to ME! I mean, look at what I was doing or had done for them.

But, God gave me a revelation of that scripture in my “pouty” breakdown that night and it goes like this: Do for others, the way you yourself would like to be treated and handled; be the light! That’s how you must conduct your business when it comes to someone else, does that make sense? It’s not about what people can do for you in return because of what you did for them; it’s more about “how” you would like to overall see people treated because in doing so, we’re actually displaying Gods love in which was a FREE for all who wanted it.

I mean, look at it this way…..

Jesus had 12 disciples who were supposed to have his back, right? Just because they were walking with someone who was perfect, didn’t mean that they were. They all let Jesus down “BIG” time!! Peter loved him and denied him, so much so he went into a cursing fit. Judas betrayed him and felt bad later, so much so – he hung himself. Matthew was a cheater and no telling what hurts, habits and hang-ups the others had (you know everything wasn’t written in scripture) and you know the saddest thing of it all??- when Jesus needed them the most they slept on him.  Here he was in the garden of Gethsemane balling his eyes out and sweating up a storm because he knew he was about to die. I can only imagine the pain he must’ve been feeling at that time – the agony, the factor of just wanting someone to comfort him and no one was available, even after all the things he had done, the people he had helped and the miracles he had performed; in the end when he needed someone the most, no one was there but his heavenly father.

Does this remind you of some of the people you deal with today? Friends, Family, co-workers, acquaintances and so forth. So you might ask, well what does all of this mean? It means that everyone’s NOT going to be there for us or have our backs – if Jesus experienced it and got over it, so can WE!

My mother used to say “It’s not what they do to you – It’s what you do to THEM! – Greater is he that’s within us than he that’s within the world. 1 John 4:4. I don’t know if you’ve experienced any of this before but I just want you to know that even in my dreadful moments; God was there and he dried my tears away. I know it’s hard sometimes to think on the “positive” side when you’re feeling down – but when God brought to my mind what he had been through, with his own friends. It made me realize that I wasn’t alone.

I reached out to my friend and she shared a powerful message with me – Read it and use it to step over the pouting and crying hurdles in your life – Use it to help move you ahead and continue treating people the way “God” intends for us to treat them, no matter what and that’s with great, deep-seated, unjudging (((( LOVE ))))

My Friend Shanae’s text message is below but first (a little backstory as to why I texted her) The pouty night I had was a result over the concerns I had with my new faith-based book “Billy Wolf and the Kids of Heavenly Hills Elementary” and how people weren’t responding as I thought they should’ve, people (a.k.a friends) that I thought would have my back and buy the book, didn’t. I also had concerns about the people that purchased the book, people whom I asked to leave a positive review after reading it but they didn’t leave a review at all, even to this day. Afterwhile, my emotions took over and I began to think that maybe I wrote a horrible book that people really hated but was too afraid to tell me!!!

Suddenly, the feel-good emotion I had with writing it became feelings of insecurity and regret, I began to doubt myself and wanted to pull the book from the shelf. So, I texted Shanae and asked: “Sis tell me the truth, Is my book bad??”  and this is what she wrote back:

“Yes, I understand how frustrating that is. Especially when you think people are going to support in a certain way. I’ve learned that many people will get the book but never read it. Buying it is their way of supporting. And yes, its super difficult to get people to actually read it because that requires them to slow down and focus on something other than their own stuff. Don’t stress yourself out over the reviews or getting people to read it. God has blessed you with this work and those that are called to read and review will do it without the hassle. Try not to harbor any animosity toward them and stop asking. Forgive them if they never do it and move forward with your promo etc. Your book is great and those that read it will be blessed greatly.”

The Grieving Stage – What Not To Say!

This topic was submitted by Tracy C – Justsuminspiration FB follower

When it comes to grief or consoling someone facing a tragedy, it can be hard to come up with the right thing to say that fits that individuals situation during the time. But, if I can be honest with you, there really is no right answer or right words, however; there are plenty of wrong words and/or statements that you can say that’ll make that grief period confusing as well as annoying to the griever.

#Sunday’s Thought: What’s Up with 1022?

photo above courtesy of flickr

Have you ever, no matter what you did or how your day progressed – seemed to always find yourself looking at your clock at exactly the same time everyday or maybe another day, just out of the blue?

I know I’ve heard people say that they’d dream about certain numbers in which would either be good power-ball plays that resulted in them winning the lottery (might I take a break for a quick second and say, when I would play – THAT NEVER HAPPENED TO ME!) I mean, I tried it – even used a fortune cookie one time, after watching the movie Lottery Ticket, and still – NO WIN! guess it only happens to whom it’s supposed to happen too, huh. Well anyway…….

Programming

People attribute numbers to many different meanings, just this week I was speaking to a friend of whom stated that she needed to talk to me about something – soon after, my message box became filled with pictures, all showing the number 222. She began to explain how these numbers kept popping up, from her daughters surgery date, her first hospital room, to the date in which she renewed her license, her score in scrabble, her office number and quite a few other occurrences in which all involved those three numbers. I was amazed as I had been having the same issue with seeing specific numbers. She attributed hers to angels and began to talk about angel numbers in which resulted in specific meanings.

I honestly don’t know anything about the angel terminology when it comes to numbers but all I knew was that I couldn’t seem to shake….1022. The backstory to this situation started about 4 months ago, I had been consulting the Lord about a choice I had to make concerning this really good exercise class or should I say (boot camp) that I had become a part of. I really needed to get in shape, so when a friend invited me to go to this exercise program that was being held in a local park for FREE, I was all ears.

The program started in the park but soon got transitioned into a facility. Anyone whom joined them in the park, was immediately entered to get their first 30 days free. I was stock’d about it and continued on throughout the process that is, until my 30 days came to an end; now comes the part in which they want you to pay full price……..crickets……..I knew the day was coming but I also knew that I didn’t have that type of money to continue. Once everything was over, I prayed about it and decided to leave it in God’s hands, I wanted to join so bad; I had even thought about doing a salary advance to get locked in. Once I prayed and asked the Lord to give me a sign, he didn’t right away but about a week or so later – the gym held a promotion to pay $99 for 6 weeks! I quickly jumped on board – Thank you God!

However, in the midst of all of this – I kept seeing the numbers 1022, not knowing what it meant; I was wondering if maybe my mom was trying to tell me something beyond the grave, as those numbers were the month and day of her birthday. No matter what I was doing day or night – every time I looked at the clock….there it was looking back at me, 1022.

Proverbs 10-22.2

In the meantime, the promotion with the gym was coming to an end and there I was faced to make a decision – should I or shouldn’t I join. I really wanted too, because after all I had lost some weight and was seeing a drastic improvement in my health; even my doctor told me to stick with the program, but what he didn’t know was that it was quite expensive and I while I wanted to join and stick to it – financially, it was impossible.

Again, I talked to the Lord about it and asked him to give me a sign – two weeks past by and there I was looking at the last day of the workout, bittersweet it was…but I just didn’t want to make a decision without hearing God’s voice. That night while sitting up in my bed, I haphazardly opened my bible and it opened up to this…

proverbs
Proverbs 10:22

It was like God had opened up the bible himself and directed my eyes to this scripture. When I opened the bible, my eyes hit the verse 22 first and when I looked up to see the chapter number, it was 10. God was letting me know all that time, that he had me and yes, while this opportunity seemed like the way to go; his word revealed that (paraphrasing) he had my back and that whatever blessing he provides or allowed to come my way, would bring peace and not disturbance – whether to our life or our finances.

After I received that confirmation, I felt at peace about leaving. I knew that God had something better for me and all I had to do was be patient and wait. The week following after I left the gym, I worked out at home – just as I would have, had I been at the gym – I wanted to remain faithful despite the fact of not being there. Before the week ended; one of the young ladies I worked out with; called me another friend of mine out on Facebook to participate in a fitness challenge (another boot camp) that was being held in town for 4 weeks! I immediately went to the link that was provided and sure enough, there was another challenge – sign up was free and guess what, it only cost $10 for the WHOLE FOUR WEEKS!

Proverbs1

I tell you, the bible says I waited patiently for the Lord to help me, and he turned to me and heard my cry.” Psalms 40:1 (NLT). I promise, I don’t know what you may be going through today or what signs or “numbers =)” that God may be showing you but take note that God does hear your every prayer. We can’t expect God to come down off his throne and speak directly to us (although sometimes I do wish that would happen) but he sends confirmation through others in which sometimes comes in the most unusual ways. Once you put something at God’s feet – just sit back, wait and watch – You just never know how he’ll show up on your behalf and it may not be in the way that you think.
