EnSpired: MOM, To The Rescue!

photo above courtesy of boredpanda

When Rhonda Whitney attended the talent show at her daughter’s school, I’m sure her hopes and intentions were to film her daughter performing and while she probably did – the next talent to come to the stage; made her unexpected video, go VIRAL!

That viral sensation was Makayla Ferrell, whom was also in the talent show; but, it’s not what Makayla song that went viral, but the person that came on stage to help her belt out the lyrics to Andra Day‘s “Rise Up” that got tears to flowing and a standing ovation.

When Makayla’s voice began to fade as she began to stumble over the song lyrics, there came a familiar voice from the crowd to help Makayla out; it was the voice of her mom, Shaye Washington! but Washington didn’t just stop there, seeing her daughter in distress; she immediately rose up and continued to sing as she made her way from the audience to the stage, helping her finish the song.

Talent shows are scary and mind-boggling as it is and it takes tremendous courage to get up in front of an audience and endure the stares from teachers, parents and your peers, all of whom are now focused on you and your every word. Shaye Washington sensed her daughter was going into a panic and therefore; put on her mom cape and sprung into action.

“I saw her struggling and getting ready to get frustrated so I just immediately stepped in. From where I was standing it looked like my child was asking for help, but just not verbally” – Shaye Washington

The heroic move of the mom, brought tears to Rhonda Whitney’s eyes – she was so moved by Washington’s actions, she went home and posted the video to her FB page.

Rhonda Whitley

Washington, whom didn’t see the post until the following day – Awoke to a surprise on her own FB page.

Shaye Washington

Since Rhonda’s posting – the video has not only went viral but has received over 100k shares and has been liked, loved and wowed over 200,000 times!! You can view the video below but I must warn you – you’re gonna want to grab the tissues.

In Lieu of mothers day week/weekend, may we all go and embrace the women that were our first role models – Thanks Shaye for being one of those amazing SHE-RO’S!

EnSpired: A Failed Shot On Purpose, For A Sentimental Reason…

photo above and below are all courtesy of bing

Missed Shot

Usually when a shot is missed in basketball, it can either go two ways in which will either be leave one team disappointed and the other rejoicing – depending on how important the shot is and whom is in the lead at the time.

However, in this case the University of Iowa Hawkeye’s men’s basketball team was ahead after a lead, so no harm for a miss right? – but that missed shot had a more “intentional” meaning for Iowa guard Jordan Bohannon who had already determined in his mind to miss the shot “on purpose”

But Why??? You must say….

According to Bohannon, he didn’t want to mess up the all time “free throw” record of former University of Iowa Hawkeye player Chris Street whom died in a car accident January 19, 1993 at the age of 20, three days after his final game. Since that time, no one had broken Street’s record of 34 free throws, until Jordan Bohannon stepped on the court. With a record of 34 free throws himself, Bohannon would have shattered Streets record if he had made the shot during the basketball game in which would have put him at 35 consecutive free throws.

While breaking a record of that magnitude would have been an honor for someone else, but according to Bohannon, he just couldn’t bring himself to do it.

Missed Shot1

“That’s not my record to have. That record deserves to stay in his name.” Jordan Bohannon

Street’s parents, whom were also at the game last Sunday night – were honored at the gesture.

“What a good kid. He’s so kind,”  “That was so special that he thought of Christopher and that record.” Patty Street

Street’s father while honored, did say that he hopes Bohannon gets another shot in the future as will be able to break the record.

Both parents embraced Bohannon after the game. Iowa went on to win the game that night against Northwestern 77-70.

Now that’s what I call not putting an “I” in T.E.A.M. Bohannon and Chris Street, both hold the most consecutive free throws “together”

EnSpired: God’s Garage of Texas Is Fixing Cars For Free & A Good Cause

photo above courtesy of bing

Every person that drives on a daily basis knows that when your car is down, so is everything else in your life and in most cases the cost to get it fixed can also be another downer especially, If you’re a woman like me and know very little about a car as it is; except when it needs an oil change – then like me you pray everyday that nothing major happens to it because if so, then that could lead to major problems; problems that you don’t need,  especially when the money is already tight!

Well, at God’s Garage located in Conroe, Texas they know all too well what that situation is like and therefore started a mission to help single mothers, widows and wives of deployed military veterans keep those cars up and running all “FREE OF CHARGE!”

Gods-Garage-2
God’s Garage – Conroe, Texas

Chris Williams, Pastor & Founder of God’s Garage works on the cars along with volunteers within the community whom donate their time to this inspiring effort. Chris and his team not only fix cars that are down but they also give cars away as well. According to NBC4i, the non-profit organization’s cars as well as money is donated by individuals and/or businesses. Cars that are donated that need little cost repair ($500 – $1000) of work, are repaired and given away.

And what does God’s Garage’s special customers have to say about it?

“I’m thrilled to be a recipient of one of their cars. They are the nicest people ever. I love it.” Jeanne McCowan

After becoming ill and losing her car due to not working, Jeanne will receive one of God’s Garage cars very soon.

“The women when they come to get the cars, you see the old guys, the tears start flowing and just the reactions to those ladies getting the car, that’s what keep you coming back,” Harvey Yaw (God’s Garage volunteer)

Just in case you seen the news today and thought “Is there anything good happening in the world?” Let this story prove that there really is, right there in Conroe, Texas.
