Bye-Bye Malia! Barack Obama sheds Tears after Leaving Malia Obama at Harvard

Whoever said that grown men don’t or shouldn’t cry – were sadly mistaken or must’ve never had to drop their oldest daughter off at school or in this case how about COLLEGE!

Former President, Barack Obama has been known to shed quite a few tears in his 8yr term of office but I’m sure none of those tears could compare to the ones he shed when he dropped Malia Obama, his oldest daughter off at Harvard.

Sunday’s Thought: Will You Please Listen To Me??

Image above is courtesy of blog site by: Moïcani – L’Odéonie

Early last week, I became annoyingly frustrated at my 13yr old daughter. Ever since she’s crossed over into “TEEN-VILLE” I’ve noticed her attitude has changed tremendously, every time I tell her what she’s going to do, the first thing that comes out of her mouth is “I Can’t Do That” or “Why??” or “That’s not for Me” or “Mama, but I” I mean don’t get me wrong, I understand when the crossover happens, everything goes haywire in their minds. Their bodies are changing, their attitudes are unbearable and their mindsets are totally different.

What happened to that 5Ib little cute baby I brought home from the hospital, the one that would stay seated when I said too and when I talked, she listened. The girl that once used to smile brightly and be grateful for everything she got, has now become the teenager whom gives me such looks as this one….

As mama used to say, “When children are young, they’re on your lap but when they get older, they’re on your heart.” and she couldn’t have been more right. So, while I gather my heart strings together, let’s move on shall we to what I really want to convey. Every parent glories in the fact when their child comes to them and asks for advice, at that particular time, that’s our moment to shine. It’s our moment to give our kids the good, solid knowledge and wisdom that we obtained over the years. However; once we give that information to them, it hurts when they don’t take the advice and decide to do it the way they had planned in their head all along.

This was the dilemma I faced with my daughter. She came telling me about the lockers at school and how they were hard to get into. The teacher showed them how to unlock them, but they only showed them one time. My daughter went on to explain how she has been having the hardest time getting into her locker, last year was easy because they had to bring their own locks but now the 8th grade halls are filled with lockers that already have pre-set locks on them. So, she was complaining about how she didn’t have anyone to help her with her combination. “Mom to the Rescue” I said – Why not ask your friends? “They’re all busy and I don’t want to bother them” (puzzled) but they’re your friends…., okay, well what about asking your teacher for help again and so forth and so on, each time I came up with a possible solution – she kept coming up with excuses as to why my plan wouldn’t work. The more scenarios I came up with the more she debunked them…

Finally she said, “I’m just going to carry my stuff around, It’s really no big deal” By this time I had gotten a little frustrated and just told her to do what she wanted to do. But at the same time, I thought – Okay, so why did you come to me again?

As I walked on the treadmill that morning – I began to think about the situation with my daughter and how it related to God. I began to wonder how God must feel when we come to him with an issue and he gives us a solution but we make excuses as to why his way wouldn’t work and why our way is better. And I’m sure like me, he wants to say – But, Would you just listen to me?

Shunning my daughter away after a failed success of listening etiquette, is exactly how God does us. When we refuse to listen to his way, he let’s us go to do it our way and when our way fails?, unlike our so-called friends whom shame us by saying such lines as “I told you so” or “See, you should have listened to me” or “You feel crazy now, don’t you” and in most cases, they wash their hands of you altogether – All because you didn’t “listen” to their instructions. But if you’ve suffered or paid the price for not listening to God (and I believe we all have) Get ready to be celebrated because God in all his mercy and grace doesn’t do us like that, he’s not the God that’s going to make you feel badder than what you already feel, instead he accepts us back with forgiving arms.

And that’s how I did my daughter when she came back to me that same day to apologize. Just as a good parent would do, God is available to give you his wisdom and instructions for you to have a good life, what seems like the right choice in our head at the moment; may not be the same way in which God would like for us to handle the situation. I promise and it’s not always popular – But getting advice from God is the best way, it may take you longer to get through it, but you can rest assured that the end result will be a “sweet success”

While I continue to work on my patience with my daughters up and down ways, God wants to know from you today “Would you just listen to Me?” – Are you listening?…

Sunday’s Thought: Expiring ME, To Exalt YOU!

I love the bible app, it has so many features such as creating a verse image in which you can post on your social media pages, if you highlight a scripture; it has a way of keeping everything you highlight in once place, which is helpful because you don’t have to scram through the bible to find it. I also love the bible plans, I usually read one or two at a time as it sort of keeps me in tune with reading my word and staying in contact with God.

A shame that something so minuet has to keep us on schedule to make time with the father of all creation, but it helps. However, there are times in my life where reading a plan, picking up a bible or even praying can seem to get lost in life’s shuffle. Work, Kids, Bosses, 2nd Jobs, Bills, Schedules, To-Do Lists, Doctor Appointments and Life Just Happened moments become our main priority while God easily slips to second base or the back burner while we allow the priorities of life to overwhelm us.

02-Work-Life-Teaser_2

I am so guilty of this, no lie because when “LIFE HAPPENS” it seems like EVERYTHING happens – ALL AT ONCE! and it’s easy to allow it’s circumstances to literally rule our day and life at the moment; but it wasn’t until I starting reading the bible plan ReThink Life: 40 Day Devotional from YouVersion that I began to think about a lot of things going on in my present life including my current priorities. In day 16 I came to realize that while I know giving my issues and life to God is the best resort as he’s the one that can “sort it all out” I really don’t totally give everything over to him; because I’m human, I always feel as though “I know best” or “It won’t get done, if I don’t have a hand in it to push it though” so while I pray and ask God to take my matters into his own hand, I find myself getting up only to take it back from him to handle it myself and when it fails? Then, that’s when my prayers get serious.

The one thing that stood out to me in that thought was this:

Check your “to-do” list for the week, is your schedule revolving around things that are eternally important like your relationship with God, your family and people who need Jesus?

So many times our to-do lists have every other thing listed on it besides the ones named above. At the end of the day, it won’t be how accomplished we feel about checking off the things on our list but rather who’s life was changed due to our attitude, what impact have we made on someone other than ourselves, do they really see Christ within us? If not, then maybe you need to expire.

You see, that’s what Martha got hung up over in Luke 10:38-42, Jesus had come to her and her sister’s house for a visit and instead of her sister Mary helping her in the kitchen, she chose to sit at Jesus’s feet and listen to him – upset, Martha asked Jesus to tell Mary to come and help her prepare in the kitchen but Jesus stated to Martha that she was worried over trivial things and what Mary had chosen to do, was much more better than being worried about preparations.

What are you worried about today? Is the “Life Happens” got you stuck? Maybe you should really take out time and be like Mary and seek God on what his priorities for your life should be, I promise if you would just ask – your earthly worries will be a thing of the past because you know who holds everything in his hand.

Say today’s prayer and ask God to help you see things from his perspective and not your own. This prayer was taken away from the ReThink Life: 40 Day Devotional

Father, today I thank you for your word that says if I seek you first the all these other things will be taken care of in my life. I pray today that you will begin to show me what you want me to prioritize in my life. Help me to see my schedule from an eternal perspective. If it is time for me to end some things I pray you will strengthen me to do it so that you can begin something new in me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Blessings ~

Sunday’s Thought: There’s An Audience Waiting on YOU!

America's Got Talent - Season 12

You know I love watching America’s Got Talent. It’s a show that showcases amazing acts, ranging in ages as young as 5 and as old as 80. It’s truly a show for “EVERYONE” and “EVERY” talent. These incredible acts perform their talents in front of an audience of thousands and a television of millions, they do acts that either no one else in the world have done or can do, some of them at least.

While some get moved on, others get buzzed or voted out – but the amazing thing about it is that no matter what talent these individuals have which ranges from the grossest to the most awe-inspiring; they perform in front of an audience that loves and appreciates what they do and if not in that audience, someone in the world embraces it and just like those contestants on AGT, You also possess a gift – Don’t let anyone tell you that no one would be interested in it or that no one would love to see something like that because guess what! There’s an audience for it somewhere.

In 2015 when the Lord blessed me to start JustsumInspiration; I had some takers and some misses; some people liked it and some people didn’t and over the course of over almost 3 years of writing/blogging and inspiring; I’ve had some people to “unlike the blog and Facebook page altogether.” It makes you sad, somewhat downhearted because you begin to think, was it something I said, was it something or was it something I posted? And then the nerves set in, I literally flipped out and began to look at my stats and my friend list to see whom bailed out – in which literally drove me crazy and kept me up a many nights.

When I stopped trying to create my own success, I had to come to grips and tell myself “This audience (Mine) isn’t for everyone” and everyone will not respond to the material given, not because they hate it but because it’s simply not for them.

Real People: Bored Crowd Audience Stadium Sporting Event Mixed

So, I say to you – no matter what gift and/or talent you have; don’t get discouraged when people don’t respond the way you think they should, it could be that, they entered the wrong auditorium; but don’t allow that to make you give up on your craft or drive you bonkers because they left your audience. Give God those keys and let him begin to draw people to you. I’ve learned that when I take my focus off of things, God has a way of blossoming my gift in ways that I could have never imagined or done on my own. I had to leave it to God and let Serendipity happen.

My tip to you is: Keep being amazing, keep doing you and keep pressing forward….Because there really is an audience for your talent somewhere and they are waiting in anticipation to see your act! – DON’T GIVE UP! because YOUR GIFT/TALENT, REALLY IS NEEDED!

Sunday’s Thought: So, Where Those Flowers At?

Smelled Any Flowers Lately?

Smelling Flowers3
photos courtesy of Bing

I was talking with a friend today and they began to nag about how they wish they were at home. They’ve been out of town for about 4 weeks and began to complain about where they were, the violence and everything negative under the sun. So, I asked “Why would they rather be at home? After-all, No one else is there and they always complain about they’re always complaining about their nagging neighbor or how bored they consistently are. At least out of town, they’re surrounded by people whom love them and cared enough of them to take them on a trip.

Sometimes , we have to take time to smell the flowers and that includes being around loving people. Okay, so what does, “Take Time to Smell the Flowers” truly mean? It means to take some time out of your busy, hectic, crazy, complicated life and breathe in the fresh air, take time to notice the small things around you; such as aSmelling Flowers4 kiss from your child when they whisper, “I love you.” or the butterfly that just so happened to fly on your window sill, before you got in the car. Take time to look at the trees and look at nature in all it’s splendor. Have you ever just taken the time to look up at the sky?, It’s filled with so many shapes and it’s so blue and beautiful and when the sun sets, it’s like looking at a piece of artwork that God designed and framed himself. These are just the “flowers” that I observed in my own world.

As a people, sometimes we really never know what we truly want – We want jobs to make money, but yet making that money causes us to miss out on the most important things in life, we never smell the flowers until we’re laid flat on our back from working too much. But it shouldn’t have to take an accident or sickness for us to realize how beautiful those flowers really are.

So, I’m telling you – Stop and Smell the flowers baby, enjoy them; because when those lonely times come and they will, you’ll be able to look back and reminisce on the beautiful smells of the flowers that you stopped along the way to look, listen and smell.

TIPS FOR HOW YOU CAN STOP & SMELL THE FLOWERS AROUND YOU:

  • Take Time To Read
  • Stop by Lowe’s or a Greenhouse (even Wal-Mart) and visit the Plant area, just to smell the flowers.
  • Take Time to Have Coffee or Lunch with a Friend.
  • Learn a new Craft.
  • Write a Letter to Yourself or someone Else.
  • Take Time to Bake a Cake or Something Sweet and invite someone over to try it.
  • Take Time to Spend with Family and Have a Movie Night.
  • Spend time with a Child, Yours included.
  • Take Time and Spend with that Special Someone, Let them know how much you either care, appreciate or Love Them.
  • Take Time for YOURSELF! & Do Nothing at All.
